The Board Meeting of the Confucius Institute at Universitas Negeri Surabaya (UNESA), Indonesia, was successfully held at Central China Normal University (CCNU) on April 17, 2026. Prof. Wu Dan, Vice President of CCNU, Prof. Nuhasan, President of UNESA, Vice President Jayus of UNESA, as well as relevant department heads attended the meeting. The meeting consolidated consensus on bilateral cooperation and mapped out goals and pathways for the next-phase development of the Confucius Institute.

In her address, Vice President Wu Dan extended a warm welcome to President Nuhasan and his delegation. She spoke highly of the remarkable achievements of the Confucius Institute at UNESA since its establishment, noting that it is a flagship program of bilateral collaboration and a key platform for CCNU to advance internationalization and implement high-quality education initiatives under the Belt and Road Initiative. As 2026 marks the 15th anniversary of the Confucius Institute at UNESA, CCNU will continue to support its development and deepen cooperation in talent cultivation, academic exchanges and cultural communication, so as to promote in-depth people-to-people exchanges between China and Indonesia.
President Nuhasan thanked CCNU for its long-standing strong support for the Confucius Institute. He commended its outstanding performance in Chinese language teaching, cultural events and youth exchanges. He expressed hope that the two universities will expand cooperation areas and upgrade cooperation levels, making the institute a bond of friendship and a vital bridge for closer people-to-people ties between the two countries.

The Chinese and foreign deans of the Confucius Institute respectively presented the 2025 Work Report, 2026 Work Plan, 2025 Financial Final Accounts and 2026 Financial Budget to the Board. After careful review, the Board fully affirmed the institute’s performance in Chinese teaching, cultural activities, local teacher training and social services, approved all reports, and offered guidance and expectations for key tasks in 2026.
During the meeting, Peng Shuangjie, President of CCNU, and Prof. Nuhasan, President of UNESA, renewed the agreement on joint construction of the Confucius Institute with witnesses from both sides. Building on solid cooperation, the two universities will further enhance collaborative education, teaching, research and cultural exchanges to promote the high-quality and sustainable development of the Confucius Institute at UNESA.
