I. A Brief Introduction

The major of Digital Media Technology was founded and approved by the Ministry of Education in 2005. Students began to be recruited to the major since 2006. The School of Educational Information Technology actively promotes the process to cultivate talents for the major with the rapid development of cultural and creative industry by taking the advantages of subjects in Central China Normal University. The major of Digital Media Technology supported by “National Research Center of Cultural Industries in Central China Normal University”, “National Engineering Research Center for E-learing”, “111 Project” efficiently integrates various resources in the school and works hard to improve the collaboration across the world. We also cooperated with pioneers of relevant companies to import social resources. The major which has already developed an innovative system of talents cultivating based on practical abilities is meant to be applied and follow the discipline of fostering versatile professionals. It has not only been enlisted in the strategic programs for training talents in higher education institutions of Hubei Province but also among the key constructional subjects in CCNU. The major of Digital Media Technology is equipped with favorable factors including the National Experimental Teaching Demonstration Center “Liberal arts Comprehensive Experimental Teaching Center of Central China Normal University” and strengthening the relationship with practice bases including “China Film Training”, “Sunshine Animation Co. Ltd of Hubei”, “Wuhan Digital Media Engineering Technology Co., Ltd” and several provincial TV stations. These practice bases provide potent opportunities for the development of the Digital Media talents.

II. Educational Objectives

This major aims to equip students with all around development of moral, intellectual, physical, aesthetics and labor education. Students are guided towards high inter-disciplinary talents of high level with great professional accomplishment, systematic professional theories of Digital Media and specialized skills in this area. The major contains two divisions- “Film animation and design” and “Virtual interaction and games”. Graduates can be employed at news media organizations, cultural communication agencies, film and television production companies, animation production companies, software for games companies, advertising companies, government agencies, education and training institutions and so forth engaging themselves in animation design and development, film and television production, advertising design, design and development of network media, game design and development etc.

III. Basic Requirements

Students of this major are supposed to have a high level of political consciousness and Political theories along with dialectical materialism and historical materialism. Students here are willed to possess sound personalities, healthy bodies, the spirit of unity and cooperation and certain aesthetic abilities. Students with good information literacy, solid professional skills and systematic scientific research methods are willing to innovating. Graduates should obtain following knowledge and capabilities:

1. Students should obtain both Digital Media basic theories and skills, acknowledging frontier and trends of this or relevant professions.

2. Students should obtain theories and methods as to digital film and television technology and digital film and television special effects, skillful in innovating digital film and television works.

3. Students should obtain basic theories of designing animations, skillful in creating both animations, comics, ikons and 2D animations, 3D animations by applying relevant software into use.

4. Students should obtain basic theories and relevant skills with the ability to design and develop games.

5. Students should acknowledge relevant theories and methods to scheduling and managing projects of Digital Media restricted by relevant laws and principles with the ability to organize, take the charge, manage and promote projects.

IX. Explanations

1. Instruction by double teaching means the classes are taken by both a lecture and a part-time teacher from the cooperative companies. The teacher from the cooperative companies is the technical backbone recommended by the company and employed by the group leader in charge of teaching courses

2. Students should get at least 6 elective credits and suggested to take courses across liberal arts. Students shouldn’t take similar courses or courses that this subject already sets up.Students who takes double major can transfer credits to elective credits according to regulartions.

3. Credits of professional elective course are in total 68.5 credits where students should take 29 credits by the third semester.

4. Students enrolled from 2014 can earn credits by passing the test of computers organized by the computer testing center of the school during freshman military training. While those who fail the test should take basic computer courses. Students enrolled from 2013 can take the basic computer courses of the school and calculate their credits by passing the test of computers organized by the computer testing center of the school.

5. Students began their graduation field work from their seventh semester which lasts for at least 6 weeks in the cooperative practice bases.

6.“Practice of Digital Media projects” which are practical and comprehensive activities individually in this direction was executed in the fourth, fifth and sixth semester in the charge of tutors in groups. The group of tutors consists of full-time specific teachers and teachers hired from companies who guides the students towards finishing the project individually or by the group.

7. Investigation and practice was an integral part of this direction while specifically “Practice of art study” lasts for two weeks and is scheduled outside of the school during summer holidays after the end of the second semester. Other practice are scheduled during the semester located in the practice bases outside or inside the school.

8. Professional graduation design was scheduled from the last week of the sixth semester to the March of the eighth semester which can be proceeded in the cooperative practice base and guided by double tutors. Each the graduation design project will be appointed by a tutor in the school and a tutor from a company to guide the students towards designing and developing the project.

9. This major sets up dual degree which totally accounts for 62 credits. Students takes up to 28 credits can apply for minor certificate. Students who take 42 credits and pass the thesis defense can apply for dual degree certificate

10. Students of this major who are permitted to graduate should meet following requirements: taking the specific credits within the allowed terms, taking credits up to 130 including at least 3 credits on the community education platform, completing all the teaching steps of practice and experiment, finishing at least 2 online courses, meeting the undergraduate English requirement of CCNU and passing the thesis defense. Students who meet the requirements of the university to endow degree are granted Bachelor of Engineering.
