Ⅰ、Majors Introduction

The department of physics of Central China Normal University enjoys a history of more than 100 years. The major physics is a characteristic specialty of national colleges and also a brand major for undergraduate in Hubei Province. It has a national excellent course "Methods of Mathematical Physics", four excellent courses at provincial level, four excellent courses at university level. In addition, this major has a state-level teaching team of theoretical physics. Based on the experience of trial experimental class of interdisciplinary between mathematics and physics in 1993, with the approval of the Ministry of Education in 1996, CPST of CCNU began to set up a talent training base of national basic science (physics). The enrollment schedule of the base has been independent from the others. Excellent students are encouraged to register for examination, and they are provided special study scholarships. During the four years study of students from base class, best teachers and teaching materials are provided. Students are cultivated in accordance with the unique training program. In the year 2012, CCNU has started the construction of the major in which all the courses are taught in English.

Ⅱ、Cultivation Target

This major aims to cultivate the student who has good political, ideological and science quality, and also has a system and solid basic knowledge of physics and mathematics, with innovative spirit and practical ability, and has a strong ability to adapt to the spirit of collaboration and solidarity, can be engaged in physics and related professional talents in research and teaching, providing excellent students for postgraduate institutions.

Ⅲ、Basic Requirements

The graduates should acquire the following knowledge and abilities: 1. Systematically mastered the basic physics theories, methods and basic experimental skills, have a strong self-learning and research capabilities; 2. Systematically mastered advanced mathematics basic theories and methods, with good mathematical training; 3. Master the basic principles of computer and network and basic knowledge; 4. Master a foreign language, can read the professional foreign language books and periodicals; 5. Understand the general principles and knowledge of major applications; 6. Understand the frontiers and latest developments in physical science, have some research experience in the physical frontiers, and also has the initial research training, in order to lay the foundation for further research; 7. Master the basic skills of document retrieval, information inquiry, and the application of modern information technology; 8. Grasp communication and writing skills, as well as social skills and organizational capacity; 9. Understand the national principles, policies and regulations, such as science and technology, intellectual property rights and other aspects.
