Laboratory of Adolescent Cyberpsychology and Behavior, Ministry of Education


The Key Laboratory of Adolescent Cyberpsychology and Behavior (Central China Normal University) affiliated with the Ministry of Education approved the initiation of the project by the Ministry of Education in December 2010 and demonstrated the key lab development plan in June 2011. There are four main research areas of the lab, which are as follows: Cyber cognition in learning and teaching, Cyber social behavior, Cyber and adolescent mental health, Adolescent internet culture and content security.

The Key Lab was developed on the basis of key disciplinary fields of psychology, education, and information science of Central China Normal University. The Key Lab provides excellent research facilities and environments, equipped with several state-of-the-art specialized experimental instruments. The Key Lab has a group of outstanding, young, creative, and vibrant researchers, led by leading academic figures in different research areas.

Traditional research of adolescent mental health focuses more on the developmental characteristics of adolescents; whereas more complicated problems arise in an era of rapid spread of internet use among adolescents, thus more efforts should be undertaken to explore the developmental characteristics of adolescents, to further discuss how internet and information technology play a role in adolescent’s social behaviors, life style, and tradition inheritance. The construction and development of the Key Laboratory of Adolescent Cyberpsychology and Behavior is an adaption to the developmental trends of the discipline of psychology, providing scientific support to promote the growth of adolescent, purities the internet environment, and optimize the internet content, provide an authoritative research platform for technology service in education, adolescent development, and social progress.

It is important to enhance and improve the internet construction and management in China and to guide proper and healthy internet use. Scientific research plays a role in that it helps us better understand how and what to do, especially in the area of adolescent mental health and behaviors. The establishment of the Key Laboratory of Adolescent Cyberpsychology and Behavior answers the call of social needs for harmonious development in an informational era. It is important to cultivate healthy internet behaviors, to construct positive and sound internet contents and environment, to prevent any harmful internet behaviors, especially socially vicious events due to internet mass incidents, which will all eventually help to improve individual mental health and life well-being. Research on adolescent cyberpsychology and behaviors could essentially improve scientific progress and socially harmonious development.
