Professor Liu Shouhua’s Work Included in the Translation Project of Chinese Humanities and Social Sciences Academic Boutique

Liu Shouhua is a professor of the School of Chinese Language and Literature of CCNU. Recently, His book A History of Chinese Folktales, applied by the School of Translation Studies of Qufu Normal University in Shandong province was approved to be included in the Translation Project a second time.The book will be translated into Japanese and published in Tokyo.

In total, A History of Chinese Folktales comprises 680,000 words, to which Prof. Liu was devoted for 18 years.Upon its publication in 1999, it was widely acclaimed. In 2016, the School of Translation Studies of Jinan University (JNU) applied forthe project of translating it into English which would be published in America. It is the first time that the book has been included in Chinese Academic Translation Projects. Recently, Qufu Normal University applied for the project a second time, and was approved to translate the book into Japanese and publish it in Tokyo. As an academic monograph, it was included in Chinese Academic Translation Project twice within 3 years and its English and Japanese editions will be published overseas.

The book, A History of Chinese Folktales was finished in August, 1997. Except for the introduction, the book contains 12 chapters, including Folktales from Ancient Chinato the 20th century,covering a wide range of subjects such as Buddhism and Taoism.Being distinctively original and pioneering, this book is of great academic value. After its publication in 1999, it gained attention and reputation from the academic circle. In 2003, the book won second prize of Distinguished Achievement in Humanities and Social Sciences of the Ministry of Education.
