President Hao Fanghua Aattended Online Workshop on COVID-19 Response, Sustainable Development

The online workshop “COVID-19 Response and Sustainable Future of Global Risk Governance” was held on June 30, 2020, marking the start of HDI-Global Online Academy 2020 (HDI-GOA2020). Directors and experts from World Health Organization, International Red Cross Academy, Beijing Peaceland Foundation, International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent, Harvard University, Peking University, Tsinghua University, Beijing Normal University, Central China Normal University China Global Philanthropy Institute gathered online together to exchange their insights on global future after COVID-19. Vice President of Beijing Normal University, Prof. Zhou Zuoyu presided at the workshop. President Hao Xiaofang from CCNU made the conclusion speech.  


On the opening ceremony, Chen Zhu, Vice President of ICRC and President of RCSC, Ibrahima Socé Fall, assistant director general of WHO, Jagan Chapagain, secretary-general of IFRC delivered the opening speeches, expressing their expectations for the innovative path to fight against the COVID-19.


During the Panel Session, Dr. Gaya Gamhewage, Head of Learning and Capacity Development of WHO stressed that the isolation and loneliness caused by COVID-19 promoted the importance of lifetime learning and cooperative learning. Dr. Xavier Castellanos, deputy secretary-general of IFRC, put forward his opinion on the changing relationship between different organizations when fighting against COVID-19. Professor Arnold Howitt, co-director of Harvard Kennedy School, emphasized that the connection between countries are getting closer and international cooperation should be strengthened. Professor Xue Lan, Dean of Schwarzman Scholars of THU, analyzed the new challenges and opportunities of global risk governance.


President Hao summarized that CCNU will devote itself to fighting the pandemic with global partners and participating in international cooperation in education as a cooperator of “HDI-Global Online Academy”. Through the fruitful discussion of this seminar, scholars had come to a conclusion that the outbreak of COVID-19 is not only a chance to conceive our future and explore innovation, but also an opportunity to discover a new type of online teaching. It is highly expected that HDI-Global Online Academy will promote the cooperation among different universities, international organizations and scholarships as well as providing a collaborative environment for the researchers, teachers and learners where they can discuss the issues of global risk governance timely and effectively.


This workshop was aired on BNU Online and Xuetang Online and cooperated with many other platforms. It involved 8000 viewers, including international institutions workers, researchers and teenage students.


HDI-Global Online Academy is sponsored by BNU, CCNU, WHO, IARC and many other institutions from home and abroad. It is supported by UNDP, UNV and OCHA. The courses are designed by WHO, focusing on COVID-19. And they will officially start their first class through the platform BNUonline and Xuetang Online in early July
