CCNU and University of Newcastle Celebrated the 10th Anniversary of the Establishment of Confucius Institute

On December 8th, Central China Normal University (CCNU) and University of Newcastle (UON) in Australia jointly celebrated the 10th anniversary of the Confucius Institute. The ceremony was broadcast live. Zhou Limin, Consul General of the People’s Republic of China in Sydney, Hao Fanghua, President of CCNU, and Alex Zelinsky, Vice-Chancellor of the UON congratulated the Confucius Institute on its 10th anniversary. Zhao Lingshan, Vice President and Secretary General of the Chinese International Education Foundation, Kent Anderson, Deputy Vice-Chancellor Global of the UON and Chairman of Confucius Institute Board, and Peng Shuangjie, Vice President of CCNU and Vice Chairman of Confucius Institute Board delivered speeches at the ceremony.

The Attendees pointed out that Confucius Institutes have made remarkable contributions to providing high-quality Chinese teaching courses, and stimulating local interest in learning Chinese and promoting cultural exchanges between Chinese and Australia. Both sides shared the expectation that Confucius Institutes will be dedicated to building a community with a shared future for mankind by the Chinese and Australian people jointly.

President Hao Fanghua indicated that Confucius Institute not only belongs to China, but also to the world. Confucius Institute at University of Newcastle has played an indispensable role as a window and a bridge for international Chinese language education and cultural exchange, which has greatly accelerated cultural exchanges between China and Australia. Based on the joint establishment of the Confucius Institute, the two universities have carried out all-round cooperation in talent cultivation, scientific research and cultural exchanges, facilitating both sides with building world-class universities.

Niu Wenqi, Educational Counsellor of Consulate General of the People’s Republic of China in Sydney delivered a speech and awarded Rhys Palmer, Former Director of Confucius Institute, Yi Honggen, Cher Jones, and Zhang Yichuan, Chinese Director of Confucius Institute with certificates of honor.
