Do you want to know the experiences of the student journalists in the Media Convergence Center? Carrying cameras to produce high resolution photographs or being desk-dwelling computer nerds to write down sophisticated reports? The Media Convergence Center has always been attractive to CCNUers. On this day for all journalists, some student journalists are willing to share their thoughts and experiences about the time they spent here.
Why did you join the Media Convergence Center?
Answer from Jiao Mengchan -- Broadcast Station
On the first day in CCNU, I was at a loss in the face of new life. When I was walking along the Guizhong Road, the gentle voice from the broadcast welcoming freshmen comforted me... Therefore I decided to join in the Broadcast Station so that I could deliver warmth and care to CCNUers as the gentle voice did.
Answer from Zou Xinxin -- Photograph Team
I excel at capturing meaningful moments in daily life. With great enthusiasm for photography, I registered to become a member of the group.
Answer from Kristina -- English Press Corps
When it comes to the reasons why I joined EPC, I have a lot to share. Knowing that EPC was recruiting new members, I enrolled and received one-month training. From my perspective, EPC offers me a wonderful platform to present abilities relevant to my major. Additionally, on account of relevant experience in Macao, I am passionate about journalism.
Answer from Zhang Nianying --Department of Social Medium
In July, I came across the summer training camp recruitment, published in the WeChat Official Account of the Media Convergence Center. Attracted by the youthful cover, I clicked on and browsed through the recruitment information, and then joined the QQ group, thinking that "I believe I can manage to join the Media Convergence Center!" The pleasant experience in the summer camp changed my attitude towards news report and journalism, gradually from mere curiosity to a strong sense of responsibility. Before the freshmen year started , I had already had great passion for journalism, been intrigued by new media operations, and gotten the idea to devote myself to the campus publicity. I really enjoy using my pen, camera and voice to convey power and warmth.
Answer from Holly -- Chinese Press Corp
Having desired to be a news reporter for a long time, I resolutely signed up for CCNU Students Journalism Union as soon as I entered CCNU, which was the kind of fulfillment of my long-cherished wish.
Answer from Cecilia -- CCNU TV Station
I chose to take part in the department of TV channels for the reason that I had relevant experience in my middle school. Finding my passion in video editing, I hope to maintain it and polish up my ability in taking and editing videos, and I have managed to do so.
What is the most memorable work for you?
The most memorable work for me was CCNUers: Me and the Epidemic in The Past two Years in March 2022, for which I recorded nearly five hours in the studio. As the dubber, I constantly enhanced my understanding of the emotion in the video, looking for the difference between the outbreak and stabilization of the epidemic and the balance point connecting them.
Engaged in the whole process, I consider the release of pictures about osmanthus fragrances the most unforgettable. Witnessing my thoughts change from a file to an attractive post accompanied with pictures step by step, my heart was filled with a sense of achievement.
Among all the posts, Gratifying Changes Discovered by CCNUers’ Penetrating Eyes leaves the deepest impression on me. This was the first time for me to make an arrangement of the post and to participate in writing. Apart from this, the post was styled in an appealing format. Ultimately, it was titled ”the best content prize” and I felt overwhelmed with pride.
The most memorable experience for me was the plan that a cartoon character visited CCNU. Seizing the hot topic, I went to the Life Sciences Building to take photos on which I added images of the cartoon character through PS all by myself. Although it was just a common post on Weibo, I still felt extremely happy because of the positive comment such as "So lovely" from CCNUers.
Having been a journalist for almost a year, the most special and unforgettable experience for me was the news report of Sunshine Class. I spent about a month in doing research, collecting materials and writing. Challenging but satisfying, it was a great success for me.
Recently I took part in the video-taking project of Beautiful CCNU, which salutes the documentary Wild China. Working in a team containing 30 people, I took the tasks of both video taking and bilingual subtitles editing. Patient and determined, I translated word by word and asked for teachers' help, and finally accomplished the hardest part of the task——translating the subtitles into English.
What do you think is the biggest gain?
Jiao Mengchan:
The biggest gift from these experiences is that, I have met many good friends who share the same love for voice with me. We believe that voice can touch the softest part of people's heart and bring inspiring power. Therefore, friends in Broadcast Station will admire and encourage each other. Through working together, we accompany CCNUers with our voices and the stories of CCNU.
Zou Xinxin:
"For the love of photography, we come together." So goes the famous slogan of the group. In addition to develop specialized skills, I also make acquaintance with a bunch of people who are keen on photography.
Kristina:
Concerning what I has obtained, I had not only learn some practical skills such as formatting and making posters, but I had also cultivated the habit of focusing on news around me.
Zhang Nianying:
I regard the friendship with my teammates and the principal of the department as the greatest harvest. We share the happiness in life and help with each other at work.
Holly:
The most valuable gains as a journalist, I think, are that I have honed my communication and writing skills, and have acquired the ability to handle a tricky task by my own.
Cecilia:
The greatest achievement for me as a journalist is my improved skills on taking and editing videos. I have kept going on the way of video taking, being brave enough to ask questions and taking specific actions to improve my skills, growing up from a green hand to an experienced senior leader. Besides, it was precious for me to come to realize the importance of life-long learning. Whenever we come across difficulties, what we need to do is to think about how to overcome them. Life-long learning steadfastly is exactly the secret of keeping going.
In your opinion, what is the most important quality of a journalist?
Jiao Mengchan
In my opinion, the most important quality for a journalist is the sense of responsibility. Journalists should always bear in mind that they should "contribute something to the group they are in", so as to generate the internal power of observation, analysis and presentation.
Zou Xinxin
From my point of view, it is responsibility that counts. It's an obligation for a journalist to accomplish tasks on time and be involved in news on the scene. The instant a journalist puts up the camera, he must be professional and objective regardless of his usual personality. Only in this way can the group becomes a coherent and efficient organization.
Kristina
The following two aspects are essential. On the one hand, a journalist should be concerned with what is happening in CCNU so as to appeal to readers. On the other hand, a journalist is supposed to assure that the news is true.
Zhang Nianying
In my opinion, the most vital quality of a journalist is being of great insight. I hope I can capture every beautiful moment, and pass the warmth and happiness to every CCNUer through the reporter's words and camera.
Holly
When it comes to the most significant quality a journalist should have, I believe it must be the sense of responsibility, without which it's impossible for one to become a brilliant news reporter.
Cecilia
To my mind, one of the vital qualities of being a journalist is "to be sensitive to hot issues in our life and the society". Reports and videos in a more timely manner are the souls for the press. Only by keeping up with current events can a journalist survive in the fierce competitions nowadays.
Encountering various intriguing and challenging things and being well acquainted with people who share the same love for news report, we take responsibilities and work happily together. Our lives in the CCNU Media Convergence Center are full of enlightenment and opportunities for development.
