"Hubei Folk Art and Handicraft" is a unique class co-created by Yang Yang, a teacher at the School of Fine Arts, and different inheritors of intangible cultural heritage.
Let's take a glimpse into this distinctive class and appreciate the charm of intangible cultural heritage.
The class offers a diverse range of experiences, providing students with numerous opportunities to engage in discussions with skilled craftsmen and participate in hands-on activities.
Since its inception in 2021, Yang Yang has guided students to explore various aspects of traditional Hubei culture. They have visited the Han Embroidery Museum to admire the beauty of the traditional Hubei embroidery art and traveled to Xiantao City, Hubei Province, to learn the art of making straw patchwork, a craft with a long history spanning thousands of years. Through these journeys, students have gained a profound understanding of numerous intangible cultural heritages and projects of Hubei folk art.
The class not only allows students to appreciate the beauty of traditional folk art, but also impart valuable craftsmanship skills.
Craftsmen have intricately carved porcelain, and embroidered intricate patterns, embodying thousands of years of history and preserving cultural heritage. Through these vivid practical activities, students have developed a heightened awareness of the importance to protect and preserve the treasures left by our ancestors. It is through such initiatives that traditional culture and skills continue to thrive and resonate within the hearts of young people.
