On October 13th, 2023, the world-renowned chemist and Nobel laureate, David W.C. MacMillan, was appointed an honorary professor of Central China Normal University.
Professor David McMillan is a world-recognized pioneer in the field of organocatalysis and a forerunner in photoredox catalysis. He has lectured at the University of California, Berkeley and Princeton University, and he also holds membership in several top-tier research organizations in the United States.
In 2021, David McMillan and Benjamin List were awarded the Nobel Prize in Chemistry.
The Honorary Professorship Conferment Ceremony was held in the new student's center, where President Hao Fanghua presented the appointment certificate to Prof. David MacMillan. She emphasized that this appointment is a significant milestone for the university's commitment to the principle of talent-led development and to strengthening international cooperation in scientific and technological innovation.
Prof. David MacMillan expressed his heartfelt gratitude for being appointed as an Honorary Professor of CCNU.
He addressed the young students of CCNU, "If you are passionate about science and wish to contribute to the development of our society, please work with conscientiousness, study with diligence and live with purpose. Only in this way can we all make the world a better place."
