On June 18, the 7th "China New Development Awards" ceremony hosted by Springer Nature was held in Beijing. The Handbook of Essential Keywords for Understanding Rural China, edited by Professor Liu Jinhai from the Institute of Political Science and National Governance (China Rural Research Institute) of our university, was awarded the 2025 "China New Development Award" by Springer Nature.

The Handbook of Essential Keywords for Understanding Rural China is the English version of Understanding China's Rural Areas: A Perspective of Keywords (published by China Social Sciences Press in 2020), which is a research achievement of the major project of the Key Research Base of Humanities and Social Sciences of the Ministry of Education. The handbook includes 38 key terms reflecting changes in China's rural areas, systematically presenting the social transformation of contemporary Chinese rural areas from three perspectives.
Launched by Springer Nature in 2019, the "China New Development Awards" selects only 10 English academic books each year. It aims to recognize the important research contributions made by Chinese scholars to promoting the achievement of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, with the main selection criteria being the scientific value and social influence of the research.

All the winning books of this year were selected from nearly 1,000 latest English academic books published for Chinese institutional authors in the past year, covering various categories such as monographs, handbooks, and professional books, and focusing on hot topics in multiple disciplines including humanities, social sciences, education, computer science, industrial chemistry, and medical and health care.
