Recently the 10th Nanyang Technological University–Tan Chin Tuan Foundation High-Level Forum on Leadership Enhancement was held in Singapore and Malaysia. Under the theme “Scientific and Technological Innovation and High-Quality Development: New Opportunities for Asian Universities”, the forum brought together representatives from 25 universities in China, Singapore and Malaysia to discuss the innovative development of higher education. Professor Li Hongfei, Member of the Standing Committee and Vice President of Central China Normal University, was invited to attend and deliver a keynote speech.

Entitled “AI and Interdisciplinary: Practice and Prospect of the Development of Emerging Engineering Clusters in Normal Universities”, Vice President Li Hongfei comprehensively shared CCNU’s philosophy and innovative practices of “Emerging Engineering Empowers New Teacher Education, and New Teacher Education Cultivates Emerging Engineering”. He noted that artificial intelligence and interdisciplinary are profoundly reshaping the educational ecosystem, talent training system and paradigm of scientific and technological innovation, and that interdisciplinary integration has become a core path for the development of higher engineering education. Driven by the national “AI Plus” initiative and the strategy of building a strong country through education, normal universities should leverage their strengths to transform into “builders of a new educational ecosystem”. His speech received strong attention and wide recognition from the participants.

During the forum, delegates visited Xiamen University Malaysia and the University of Malaya to conduct in-depth research on the current status and challenges of educational and cultural exchanges between China and Malaysia, further expanding CCNU’s cooperation space with universities in Southeast Asia.

Since its founding in 2017, the forum has been successfully held for ten sessions, focusing on core topics such as globalized education, digital transformation and innovative leadership. It has become an important platform for connectivity and collaborative innovation in higher education between China and Southeast Asia. CCNU’s participation fully demonstrated its innovative achievements in AI plus interdisciplinarity and emerging engineering development, deepened strategic cooperation with Asian universities, and injected new impetus into the university’s efforts to advance international education and build a high-level research university with distinctive features.
