CCNU’s robotics teams have claimed multiple awards at the 2026 China Robot Competition and RoboCup China Open special event, hosted by the Chinese Association of Automation and held recently at North China University of Technology.

The university sent two teams — one for the dancing robot performance and one for the agricultural robot track. The 20 members are all undergraduates from the CCNU Robot Association. After intense competition, the dancing robot team won one championship and one runner-up title, while the agricultural robot team secured two third prizes.

During preparation, the dancing robot team selected two historical dramas, Guo Wu Guan Zhan Liu Jiang (Guan Yu fighting his way through five passes and slaying six generals) and Zhaojun Chusai (Wang Zhaojun’s journey beyond the frontier). Members continuously refined the robots’ hardware structures, software code and motion tuning, using robot dance to convey traditional culture and exploring an innovative fusion of intelligent technology and traditional art. The agricultural robot team focused on irrigation and harvesting, improving structural design, sensor fusion and algorithms to strengthen autonomous operation in complex farm environments. The two teams cooperated closely throughout, reflecting the university's solid achievements in robotics education, innovation practice and talent cultivation.

In recent years, CCNU’s School of Computer Science has adhered to the principle of “promoting learning, innovation and development through competitions,” and its students have repeatedly excelled at high-level contests. For this event, the school set up a mentoring and review team led by faculty members Liu Ming, Peng Xi, Sun Shuyuan and Gao Li. Working through the Robot Association platform, they followed the whole process and offered targeted guidance on competition rules, work refinement and technical details, helping students clarify their goals, polish their entries and steadily improve quality.
With more than two decades of development, the China Robot Competition and RoboCup China Open has become one of the most authoritative and influential benchmark events in China's robotics field. Each year it draws faculty and students from hundreds of universities, including Tsinghua University and Northwestern Polytechnical University, providing a solid platform for collaborative education in smart manufacturing and driving the integration of robotics technology with industrial applications.
