On 12 of July, the2023 Asian Athletics Championshipskicked off in Bangkok, Thailand and 48 athletesfrom China participated in the competition. Three students fromCentral China NormalUniversity, namelyLiu Dezhumajoring inphysical education, Chen Jiapeng majoring inathletic trainingand Wu Hongjiao majoring inphysical education, represent People’s Republic of China to competein the men's 1500 meters, men's 4*100 meters, women's 800 metersand great achievements have been made.
In the men's 1500m final, Liu Dezhu, who has gradually improved his performanceduringthis season, won the bronze medal with aspeedof 3 minutes, 42.30 seconds, breaking the 23-year history of this event without a medal at the Asian Athletics Championships. In the men's 800-meter final, Liu Dezhu ranked fourth place. Although he missed the podium, hisspeedof 1 minute, 46.77 seconds set a new personal best. This is also the first timefora Chinese athletetobroke the record of1 minute and 47 seconds since Teng Haining, a member of the Chinese men's track and field team, who set a national record in 2014.
In the men's 4×100m relay finalheld in the evening of July 12, the Chinese teamcomposedof Wu Zhiqiang, Xie Zhenye, Chen Jiapeng and Chen Guanfeng, won the runner-upwith a speed of 38.87 seconds. On July 14, Chen Jiapengrankedseventhplacein the men's 100-meter event with aspeedof 10.30 seconds.
As the highest track and field event in Asia, the Asian Athletics Championships are held every two years. The Chinese hasteam won a total of 22 medals at this Championships, including 8 gold, 8 silver and 6 bronze medals, ranking thirdon the medal list. It is reported that the three students, Liu Deshu, Chen Jiapeng and Wu Hongjiao, will also representChina to participatein the Chengdu FISU World University Games, which will open on July 28.
