On October 18th, the Advanced Interdisciplinary Studies Forum was held at the Science Hall. Academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Chen Songxi and Shen Weixiao, were invited to give thematic reports. Vice President Liu Sanya attended the forum and delivered a speech.
On behalf of the university, Liu Sanya welcomed the scholars participating in this forum. In his speech, he emphasized the importance of academic exchanges and expressed his hope that this forum would foster further breakthroughs in academic research.
Chen Songxi detailed the importance of the discipline of statistics, emphasizing its central role in data collection, analysis and scientific inference. He said that statistics is not only the cornerstone of traditional scientific research, but also the mathematical foundation of modern AI technology. Through systematic analysis of data, statistics can reveal potential patterns and trends, thus providing strong support for decision-making. He also demonstrated the deep integration of statistics and data science and the role it plays in other sciences by combining his experience in interdisciplinary studies.
Shen Weixiao introduced the basic ideas and methods of modern dynamical system theory by analyzing the dynamical behavior in several classical cases. He mentioned that dynamical system theory mainly describes the long-term behavior of the system evolving with time through differential equations or difference equations, and the sensitive dependence on initial conditions leads to the occurrence of chaos phenomena.
During the Q&A session, participants asked Academicians Chen and Shen in-depth questions. Both academicians encouraged teachers and students to be innovative in exploring unknown fields to achieve more forward-looking research results.
