On the morning of October 12, 2026, Professor Tara Teel, Head of the Department of Human Dimensions of Natural Resources at Colorado State University’s Warner College of Natural Resources, visited Central China Normal University (CCNU) with a delegation. Representatives from CCNU’s Office of Global Engagement and College of Urban and Environmental Sciences attended the meeting.
Cao Qinglin, Party Secretary of the Office of Global Engagement, welcomed the delegation. He noted that the two universities have long enjoyed close cooperation in resources and the environment as well as cultural exchanges, and that two joint master’s programs have achieved strong educational outcomes. Referring to President Xi Jinping’s recent state visit to the United States and the proposal to invite 100,000 American young people to China for exchanges over the next five years, Cao said CCNU would seize the opportunity to deepen cooperation with Colorado State University. Drawing on the development of CCNU’s Panlongcheng campus, the two universities could explore short-term study programs, two-way faculty and student exchanges, joint research, and integrated pathways for joint training from the bachelor’s through doctoral levels, with the aim of strengthening China–U.S. youth exchanges and ensuring sustainable, high-quality cooperation.
Professor Teel thanked CCNU for the warm reception. She reflected on the history of the partnership and acknowledged that, despite recent challenges, Colorado State University has consistently valued the relationship and is preparing to renew the cooperation agreement. She added that CSU looks forward to broadening cooperation in areas such as joint student programs and collaborative research.
The two universities also exchanged views on expanding recruitment for the joint programs, short-term study visits for students, faculty exchanges, and joint applications for research projects.
